Sometimes we get asked what Interior Design services we help clients with on their homes here in Big Sky. The answer is in some ways all of the above. For most clients, this is their 2nd home. That means they may not be on site at all times during a build or redesign project. This can mean that we may be involved in the construction phase. We have many Builders and Architects in Big Sky that are incredibly capable artisans, that have great tastes and do a fantastic job. Clients sometimes feel that if we are going to be furnishing it that we should be involved at an early phase in picking finishes or the look. The weather can also affect interior design in Big Sky on how you furnish a home, colors, etc…Sometimes the homeowner may want help in a certain area of the home or may want a female opinion on paint colors, carpet, tile, etc… It gives them another eye to help make sure that the home fits together and has the right look and feel for the client.
Some clients bring us in to furnish the home after it is built. This starts with us having conversations and showing pictures and previous projects to get a feel for their tastes and likes. We then start showing furniture, accessories while shopping with them or send them pictures for them to approve. Furniture, etc.. starts getting delivered and we are able to show a room in the finished stage. There are always a few items we change out at that time but you start getting close to knowing what a clients likes and dislikes are. As more rooms are furnished you can start seeing the house take shape and the overall thought process of the interior design. This is the majority of what we do.
Some clients bring us in to redo a home either as a renovation construction wise or interior design wise. This can involve adding square footage, redoing a kitchen, bedroom or bathroom. Of course, this leads to picking tile, carpet, new paint, new finishes, appliances, moving or knocking out walls or any of a number of other things. It also usually involves new furniture and lighting, art and accessories. This can add substantial value to your home if done right. Some clients do this right before putting the house on the market with one of the great Realtors we have in Big Sky. Many times the Realtor gives solid ideas on what is the best way to increase the value of the home.
Since this is a big 2nd home rental market sometimes we are brought in by a Vacation Rental Management company or homeowner to help increase the amount of rental income a home can bring in. The Vacation Rental Management companies have great knowledge of how to increase rental income and what clients are looking for in a rental. For instance, if you can reconfigure a room to where the home can sleep more people that can open up more potential rental candidates. Couple that with the fact that if you have a very good Interior Design job and you have a real edge over other Big Sky properties. If your potential vacation renters are looking through the possibilities, sleeping more people in a good location in a well furnished house is a real advantage.
Finally, every once in a while we find a property that we will purchase ourselves and redo. Our factors we consider are location, undervalued home with great bones that just might need a little TLC. This involves a pretty intense 1-4 months for transforming a home into something that should sell for top dollar in the market.
